OPEN LETTER TO THE RESIDENTS OF ARDEN ARCADE
On behalf of Sacramentans Against Cityhood - No on Measure D, a coalition of concerned Arden Arcade and Sacramento County residents, businesses and taxpayers who live and work in the Arden Arcade area, I would like to thank the City of Sacramento for their clear and concise statement expressing that there is no current or future plans to annex the Arden Arcade area.
Backers of cityhood have consistently used the fear of immediate annexation of Arden Arcade by the City of Sacramento if voters do not approve cityhood in the November election. As a result of the city’s communications, the residents of the area can now make an informed decision based on the facts and not mistruths generated by those supporting cityhood.
As many of you know, we have battled an uphill fight against the newer regional cities who have contributed more than $100,000 of taxpayer money, two local park districts who have anteed up $30,000 of taxpayer money intended for playground equipment and park maintenance and special interest groups such as waste companies, law firms and private sector businesses who help cities provide services with the hope of securing lucrative city contracts if cityhood were to pass.
Now with the clear understanding that the City of Sacramento has no intent or plans toward annexation of the Arden Arcade area, we, the citizens are now free of the fear mongering that has been used as a tactic to persuade area residents to either vote for cityhood or be annexed by the City of Sacramento.
Every day we hear from residents who oppose adding more costly layers of government, but the actions of the City of Sacrament now allows our community to make a free choice — a choice not borne of divisiveness or fear.
We sincerely appreciate and thank the City of Sacramento for refusing to support and participate in the political affairs of our community.
Sincerely,
Mike Duveneck, Chair
