Sacramento Council Member Steve Cohn Says City Was Never The "Bogeyman"

In his monthly email newsletter, Council Member Steve Cohn clearly stated that the incorporation advocates tried to use the City of Sacramento as a bogeyman, claiming that if Measure D were defeated, the City would annex Arden Arcade without even giving the residents a chance to vote on it. Clearly this is not the intent of the City. (Click here to read the newsletter)

Throughout the campaign, Stay Sacramento kept hearing the lies over and over again that the City of Sacramento would rain down annexation the day after the election if measure D did not pass. In fact, we believe one of the wannabe Arden Arcade council candidates was responsible for running offensive robo telephone calls after the election furthering their lies to the voters. We are grateful that more than 21,000 voters rejected cityhood -- one of the largest margins of no votes in this election.

Election Day Is Tomorrow. Please Vote!

Tomorrow is the day we have been waiting for...the day we go to the polls and vote no on Measure D. Your efforts throughout this entire campaign have been awesome and we are so grateful for your dedication and support. Your spirit and energy have helped carry this campaign through the past three months. As so many of you have told us, a new city for our area just does not make sense. From the faulty fiscal assumptions in the financial analyst to creating another layer of costly government with 7 new politicians, we fought together to maintain our neighborhoods and communities. Your vote on Election Day will help send a message that cityhood is not what our community wants or needs.

Thank you very much for your support. Watch our website and facebook page for election updates.

Those Supporting Cityhood Continue to Deface No On Cityhood Signs and Harass Our Supporters

threats

For those wanting to start a new government we continue to be amazed at their slimy campaign tactics of defacing and stealing NO ON Measure D signs, misleading voters to remove signs from their lawns just prior to a TV live shot, harassing business owners with threatening letters under the guise of the FPPC. These tactics have no place in an election especially in an effort to start a new government. We are sadden by these recent events and ashamed of those in our community who will do and say anything to bring us a costly new layer of government and tell us it will be better. No thanks! Supporters of Measure D and their wnnabee politicians continue to prove that they are no better than those already in office. Why do we need 7 more politicians?

Today's News: Money flows in from Strip Club and Porn Promoters - More than $5,100 To Buy Influence In A New City.

What do we really know about these wannabee politicians? Nothing! If we could only print some of what we have been told about these candidates you too would be amazed at what little they offer and how much special interest money they have received. We have uncovered that one of the politician wannabees has taken $5,100 from Strip Club owners (click here to read and see). The Strip Club donor runs a Strip Club in Rancho Cordova, the same Rancho Cordova that these pro cityhood supporters say they want our community to become. What’s more Rancho Cordova has three Strip Clubs and a Gambling Casino. Now maybe that is what types of business they are going to recruit to Country Club Plaza.

Cityhood Campaign $45,000 In Debt According to Campaign Filings. If This Is How They Run A Campaign, We Surely Don't Want Them Running Our City!

Once again, we learn the Measure D campaign is in debt owing a whopping $45,000 to their suppliers. The Measure D Campaign has already spent tens of thousands of dollars to mislead voters with their faulty fiscal assumptions and are now deficit spending tens of thousand more money in an effort to pass this bad measure.

What concerns us most is how are they going to pay down their debt as less than 10% of their donors are from the Arden Arcade Community. Most of their contributions have come from special interest waste, law and other consulting firms to pay for their costly experiment. If they do win, you can bet their debt will be paid off by those seeking fat contracts with a new city all at tax payer expense.

In a time when people are calling for less government and less politicians, Measure D will create an even larger bureaucracy, more costly staff and benefits, higher taxes and fees and less service. Help us send a loud and clear message on November 2 and deny the political and costly power grab of our great community.

Election Day is 9 Days Away. Your Vote Is Important To Help Defeat Measure D - It Puts Our Community At Risk With An Immediate $219 Million Dollar Debt Plus Other Faulty Fiscal Assumptions.

Immediate million dollar fiscal debt, faulty financial assumptions, another layer of costly government when communities across California and the region are wanting less, 7 new elected politicians (the most in any city in our region except for the City of Sacramento), and special interest who are standing at the trough waiting to extract big payoffs from a new city is what we will get if this risky measure passes.

Wannabe politicians will stop at nothing to get elected, including misleading the voters. Please join us and vote No On Measure D on November 2.

2,850 No On Measure D Signs Are In the Ground and More Are Being Given Out Each and Every Day.

Each and every day we are receiving request for No On Measure D lawn signs. We can hardly keep up with the demand from residents who want to put a stop to this bad measure. Unlike those signs supporting cityhood that are located on county property in violation of the law or on fences without the owners permission, most of the No signs are located on the property of voters from whom we have received permission to place them.

Yet we are still disillusioned by the daily reports of No On Cityhood signs that continue to be stolen. Just today we received another report that an entire street had their signs stolen. SHAME OF THOSE cityhood supporters who are taking our signs. If they cannot even run an ethical campaign and abide by existing laws, how can we expected them to operate a costly new layer of government.

More than 230 No On Measure D Signs have been stolen. Please stop stealing our signs.

The Pro Cityhood Campaign Is Nearly $40,000 In Debt. Where Will They Get The Money To Pay Their Bills? SPECIAL INTEREST OF COURSE!

We can only speculate where the money will come from to pay the pro cityhood's nearly $40,000 of campaign debt. The next official reporting period mandated by the FPPC falls after the election. As a result voters will not know what special interest groups will be paying their debt and the remaining campaign cost. We can only imagine that the funding will continue to come from special interest and unions outside our community.

Tragically, this scenario of hiding money has followed a trend of keeping their donors secret, not filing tax forms and more recently, their blatant disregard of Sacramento codes and laws as it applies to the hanging of their campaign signs (their signs have been bolted to county street signs, stop signs and hung on fences WITHOUT the owner's permission).

If they can't even follow the laws now, how can we trust them to run a costly new layer of government? We ask for your support and Vote No On Measure D.

Special Interests And Council Candidates Continue To Be The Largest Contributors to Cityhood: And By The Way, If Cityhood Passes, These Same Special Interests Would Reap Millions in New Contracts and 7 New Politicians Would Be Awarded Costly New Salaries And Benefits.

Frankly we can't wait for this election to be over. For four years we have fought to preserve our communities and neighborhoods. We fought tirelessly to make cityhood proponents disclose their donor list and they would not until enough pressure was mounted that they did so under protest. Clearly their reason for not publishing the list was do to the enormous amount of money received - more than half and tens of thousands of dollars - was coming from special Interest from outside the community, tax dollars from neighboring cities and tax dollars from two Arden area park districts (Fulton El Camino and Arden Manor Park Districts).

With the pro cityhood most recent FPPC disclosure filing we learned that 90 percent of their donors represent waste companies, law firm, private contractors that do business with municipal cities, employee unions, and many of the city council candidates themselves. We may have missed it in our count, but we saw that only ten to twenty (non-candidate) donors actually live in our community. The cityhood proponents FPPC report also shows nearly $40,000 is owed to their campaign strategist. (see our upcoming post on where we suspect they will get money to pay of their huge debt).

At StaySacramento, we always provide our source documents, click here to read the pro cityhood FPPC financial disclosure form required by law.

Thank You Sacramento County Code Enforcement For Doing Exactly What Cityhood Proponents Claim You Don't Do -- Enforce County Codes

One concern we hear from the proponents of cityhood is that the county does not enforce county codes. Yet the biggest violators of the county code in this Measure D election has been those posting signs for the cityhood campaign. We have seen first hand cityhood supporter signs attached to stop signs, street signs and placed on private property without the business owners’ permission. Those of us fighting cityhood work very hard to ensure our signs are placed in lawns and on commercial property where we have the owners’ consent. Still we have had more than 100 signs stolen from these locations including four of our large signs, two of which were taken from the commercial property at Eastern and Marconi.

For some of those who want to start a costly new layer of government, they surely are proving that they cannot be trusted as they will violate current codes and do and say anything to pass this risky venture.  Just wonder what they would do when no one is checking up on them.

Click here to see one of their signs hung on a county traffic sign. Go Figure.

Sacramento Sheriff's Department To Hire 50 Deputies. $21 million grant to provide enhanced law enforcement in Arden Arcade and the rest of Sacramento County.

Congratulations to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department for submitting and winning a $21 million grant to provide 50 additional law enforcement deputies for our community. We know the men and women of the Sheriff's Department put their lives on the line each and every day to protect the citizens of this community. We are grateful to you and know these extra officers will give you the added strength to further reduce crime in our neighborhoods.

From the tens of thousands of No On Measure D supporters, we stand with you to fight all crime in our community. We salute your valiant efforts and say thank you! Click here to read article.

Raise Your Hand If You Think Property Tax Revenue Has Significantly Declined...If You Raised Your Hand You're Absolutely Right!

There are three significant revenue components to the proposed city budget that the backers of cityhood want you to believe are sound. The first is sales tax revenue, the second is vehicle license fee (VLF) revenue and the third is property tax revenue. We prepared the chart below based on the County budget that shows property tax revenue is down by tens of millions of dollars. These numbers do not appear sound to us. On our finance page we show that sale tax and VLF revenue are also significantly down. The only ones who benefit from this crazy plan to create a costly new layer of government are the 22 new politicians who are running for office. Cityhood is a risk we can't afford! Click here to see our source document.

Unbelievable! One of The Most Important Debates For Our Community and the Cityhood Backers Tap A Supporter Who Has Lived in Our Community For About 1 Year To Tell Us Why We Should Become A Costly New City.

Everyday we are learning that Cityhood backers keep pushing for a new city just so a few lucky people can become elected officials and create a costly new government. The person they choose to debate No On Cityhood tonight indicated that he has lived in the proposed cityhood boundary area for about a year. Aside from the fact he has been a professional communications director for several politicians, he had the Chutzpa to mislead the audience by saying the County supports cityhood and the county is broke. Well the last time we checked the County has never taken a position on Cityhood and with a nearly $2 billion dollar balanced budget; Sacramento County is far from being broke.

Republicans, Democrats, Independents and All Voters Stand Together To DEFEAT Measure D

Battered by an unprecedented economy, declining sale tax revenue, small businesses suffering mightily, we are in a fight to save our community from being taken over by those who seek political power, special interest money, and creating another costly level of government. Our NO ON MEASURE D coalition (Democrats, Republicans, Independents, decline to state and all those who vote) stands together to fight those who are attempting to buy their way into a city that a majority of our community do not want. Encourage your friends and neighbors to vote NO on Measure D in November.

Just Follow The Money...And Ask Why The Pro Cityhood People Will Not Tell You Who Is Funding Their Campaign

At the recent Arden Park debate, a question was posed by an audience member to name the five biggest contributors to their respective campaigns -- all of a sudden the man speaking for cityhood and who had answers to every reason why their should be a new city said with a fumble and blank look "I don't Know." Well we helped him remember by pulling out their most recent FPPC filing and told him and the audience that the two major funders they reported were two huge Waste Management Companies. The reason they do not want you to know this is because SPECIAL INTEREST are their big backers not the residents of our community. You see the SPECIAL INTEREST are the ones who will be benefiting big time from a new city. NOT US. Sacramentans Against Cityhood reported in their FPPC filing that they raised approximately $8,000 from resident in the Arden Arcade community.

Our heart Goes Out To William Glen, The Town And County Specialty Store, That Is Closing at the End of The Year.

More Sales Tax Dollars Lost

We were sad to learn that William Glen, the Town and County Specialty store, will be closing their door at the end of the year. According to the Sacramento Bee, the recession has definitly changed people's purchasing habits along with competition from the Internet. The loss for our community is not just another great business going away but the tremendous loss of sales tax dollars which is exactly what those pro cityhood people are depending on to fund their risky adventure.

Now Here's A Twist - You Just Gotta Love These Politicians

Jim Cooper was recently quoted in the Sacramento Bee in reference to two Elk Grove Ballot Measures as saying.."People want less government, not more." We at No On Measure D - Sacramentans Against Cityhood certainly agree with you. Click here to check out the Bee Article (his statement is at the bottom of the article).
